Project Overview

Scatto is a conceptual beer brand inspired by the film Gladiator and named after one of Maximus’ horses. The project aimed to build a full brand identity that connects the power and heritage of ancient Rome with the boldness of modern beer culture. The outcome is a fusion of historical symbolism, strong visual identity, and an immersive go-to-market strategy.

The Challenge

How do you design a beer brand that stands out in a saturated craft beer market while evoking a deep sense of history and storytelling? The challenge was to merge ancient Roman themes with contemporary packaging design, creating a brand that resonates with both craft beer enthusiasts and history lovers.

The Idea

The big idea centered on Scatto—representing speed, strength, and resilience. Inspired by gladiator masks, Roman tiling, and the lunar calendar, the brand’s visual language draws from timeless cultural elements while presenting them in a bold, modern aesthetic.

Research & Inspiration

  • Historical References: Roman gladiator culture, masks, and armor.
  • Visual Elements: Roman tiling patterns, lunar calendar symbolism.
  • Market Insight: Craft beer consumers are drawn to storytelling, cultural depth, and standout shelf presence.

Design Execution

Brand Identity & Logo

A strong logo was developed, symbolizing power and heritage through gladiator-inspired iconography. The typography and mark establish Scatto as a bold, timeless beer brand.

Packaging Design

Three beer cans were created, each inspired by distinctive gladiator masks used in Colosseum battles. Every design tells a story while maintaining cohesion across the product line.

Roman Lunar Calendar

Integrated the phases of the moon into the brand system, reflecting the Roman lunar calendar and embedding a sense of history and ritual.

Color Palette

Colors were chosen from ancient Roman tiling, with earthy reds, deep blacks, and stone neutrals adding authenticity and richness.

Final Packaging

Complete packaging system was crafted for both cans and outer boxes, designed to stand out on shelves while remaining practical for distribution.

Go-to-Market Strategy

To bring Scatto to life, a comprehensive launch plan was created:

  • Target Audience: Craft beer enthusiasts & history buffs.
  • Promotions: In-store displays, specialty retail partnerships.
  • Campaigns: Social media storytelling and teaser visuals highlighting Roman heritage.
  • Experiential Marketing: Events themed around Roman culture to immerse consumers in the Scatto brand world.

Outcome

The Scatto project delivered a complete, cohesive brand identity that blends historical depth with modern design sensibilities. The brand feels strong, immersive, and culturally rich—designed to resonate on shelves and in the minds of consumers.
